About Peñiscola
The town is easily accessible. The coastal motorway, AP7, runs between the main cities of Barcelona and Valencia. Peñiscola is off Junction 43, roughly halfway between the two.
Reus airport, an hour south of Barcelona is the nearest. A new airport at Castellon is planned to open in 2007. This will be approximately 35 miles away.
Peñiscola by night is stunning. The coast is outlined by lights and the castle is dramatically floodlit. Bars, cafes and restaurants come alive again after the afternoon siesta, it is usual for a night out to last well into the following day!

Leisure and Sport
Golf
For Golf enthuastes the Panoramica Golf and Country Club at Sant Jordi, 20 minutes inland from Peñiscola, is one of Europe's finest courses. Designed by Bernhard Langer, the 18 hole course is situated on the luxurious residential golf complex.
Water Sport
The southern coast is ideal for Scuba diving where there are quiet coves and clear water. Peñiscola has a busy port area and a marina, with 72 berths. Fishing is very popular. A new marina is planned.
Walking, Rambling and Cycling
To the south of the town lies the natural protected park area of De La Serra D'Irta. This encompasses the Irta mountain range, it is 15 kilometres long and reaches a height of 573 metres. The park is extensive. There are numerous sign-posted walks, which cover an area of outstanding beauty along the southern coastline down to the resort of Alcossebre.
Swimming and sunbathing
The north sandy beach is a blue flag one. It is clean with many amenities, including wheel-chair access. The sea is clear and safe for swimming.
Other activities to enjoy include horse-riding, quad hire, tennis and of course beach games!
Restaurants, cafes and Bars
There are numerous places to eat, relax and socialise. You are spoilt for choice. From pizzas and fast food to gastronomic cuisine, Peñiscola offers it all. The area is noted for it's fish, particularly King Prawns caught further north at Vinoros. Other dishes of note are: Monkfish, "Polpets", (little octopus), "Caracols Puntxents", (whelk), mussels, and crawlfish.
The succulent famous Spanish dish "Paella", a rice dish with fish and shell-fish is very tasty. Also try the local fish soup.
Markets
Peñiscola has an open air market on most Mondays, where you can by local fresh produce. There are also markets locally in Vinaros and Benicarlo.
